2. Try to be unique when you choose your name. You do not want to have a name that will be confused or be very similar too their sites. This can drive traffic away from you as people may end up at the other site that you resemble.

3. You should start by coming up with at least 4 or 5 single words that describe what your site has to offer. You can then add on to the site name from there. Add a word in the front or add a prefix to the end. It can be good to stay away from domain names that have hyphens in them or names that are misspelled but similar to other sites. This can hurt you more then you know.

4. Keep it simple and easy to remember. You don’t want create a name that no one can pronounce or one that they can’t spell. The easier it is, the easier it is for others to remember it. You want it to be short, sweet and to the point. People do not want to have to type an article that is super long as this can be annoying.

5. Watch out for copying someone else’s name. Once you know what name you want, do a search on copyright.gov so you can be sure that the name is yours free and clear. Try to make your name give away what you offer on your site. This way people surfing the web can easily tell what you have to give them. People want to make their searches as quickly as possible and if your name requires some work to pull it up, then it will not be a good domain name.

6. You can try using such tools as Domjax.com to help you choose a good name that is not taken by anyone else. There are many sites that you can look into to help you with this just be sure to go with a name that is not the property of anyone else.

Choosing domain names is not that hard if you know a few pointers. You want to be sure that you do not pick someone else’s domain name and you want something that is easy to find but also pertains to what you have to offer.
