Domain Name Extensions
Last modified: November 3, 2010There are now hundreds of domain name extensions available for use for websites. However, most of these are country-specific and some of them are also hard to acquire either because of having too much popularity or being too expensive. For websites that do not have business as their primary purpose, they could just take any extension that they like as they would not need that much traffic for profit. For businesses, however, domain name extensions could make or break the business.
For instance, the most popular extension in the World Wide Web today is .com and having that as your extension would take your accessibility level up a notch. The problem with this extension is most of the useful domain names that end with this is already taken. Since the .com extension has been around ever since the Internet was first developed it is just natural that you would not be able to think of a lot of great domain names for your websites with this extension. You would really have to think hard and do research in order to come up with a good domain name that would match well with this extension.
If you fail at this, there are also two other popular domain name extensions: .net and .org. Both domain name extensions create an impression of being a part of a bigger group; therefore, improving the reputation of the business. Since both domain name extensions imply that the owner is part of a network or an organization, the website will have a lot more credibility and would gain the trust of the potential customer easily.
